TECHNIQUES
Tie-Dyeing : The Indian Bandhani
In India, this technique is known as Bandhani or Bandhej. It is an ancient method where fabric is tied, twisted, or stitched before dyeing. The tied sections resist the dye, resulting in vibrant patterns where the original color of the fabric remains. This technique is used to create intricate and colorful designs.
Batik - Bee Wax
Hot wax ( From our bee hive) is applied to fabric to resist dye, creating intricate designs. After dyeing, the wax is melted off, revealing the pattern. In traditional Indian Batik, the wax is applied using various tools, including brushes, wood, even just soaking the fabric in wax for a random pattern
Stencil Resist
This technique is referred to as Block Printing or Stenciling. Stencils or blocks are used to apply resist paste, often made from rice flour and other natural ingredients, to the fabric. After applying the dye, the paste is washed away to reveal the design. This technique can involve both custom wooden blocks, brush and intricate stenciling using japanese methods.
