TANNIN BLACK

FROM OAK

Oak is inseparable from the Cognac landscape

From Oak works with tannin-rich materials drawn from the forest and cooperage traditions of Cognac.

Leaves, galls, bark, and wood ash are used to produce deep blacks and earthy tones. Oak ash collected from local barrel makers is returned to dye processes and soil, reinforcing a closed material cycle between forest, fermentation, and land stewardship.

Origin — Oak

Oak entered my practice through close observation of Cognac barrel makers and ageing processes. Oak is not a surface material here, but a structural one—shaping aroma, transformation, and duration.

Working with oak residues allows me to engage tannin as a shared material language between dyeing, ink-making, and spirit ageing.
